About On Her Own Feet
When a marriage ends after 40, the money questions are bigger than the legal ones: the retirement accounts, Social Security, the house, health insurance until Medicare. Yet almost everything written about divorce money is written by someone trying to sell you a lawyer.
On Her Own Feet is different on purpose:
- Numbers first. Every guide has a calculator, worked examples at three income levels, and an ending that tells you what to do this week.
- Sources shown. Every rule links to the official page it comes from, checked on the date shown. See how we make our numbers.
- No legal advice, ever. We explain how things generally work. We never tell you what you are entitled to or whether a settlement is fair. Those are questions for professionals who know your case.
- Private by design. Calculator entries stay in your browser, on your device. We see nothing unless you choose to email yourself your results. There are no ads and no trackers sold to anyone.
Who makes this
On Her Own Feet is built by a small independent team and is not owned by a law firm, an insurer, or a lender. Our calculators run on published government formulas. As the site grows, guides will carry review notes from credentialed divorce financial professionals, named, with their credentials shown. We will never invent a reviewer, and a page only claims review when a real person has done it.
If you are in danger
